"My health may fail and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever."

Reflection
​

Have you ever been around someone who has a chronic illness or terminal disease?
Their health is failing. 
Have you ever been around someone whose health is failing, but their attitude does not reflect their pain or sadness?
God is their strength. 
​

For many years I observed my mother's health decline. 
I was amazed at how she would yell out in pain and then continue our conversation or even begin laughing.
​

My heart would be aching for her. With tears in my eyes I would look at her and say, "I don't know how you do it."
She would reply, "What's the alternative? I can either laugh or cry. I choose to laugh."
​

She always reminded me of the Proverbs 31 woman who laughed without fear of the future.
Her faith was in Jesus. 
She knew where she was going whenever he chose to call her home, therefore she had no reason to be afraid. 
​

On particularly difficult days I remember my mom's words - "I choose to laugh."
We may not have total control over our health, but we do choose how we will respond.

What is a challenge you are facing and what are you learning from that challenge?

Short Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

​I pray that when we go through times of calamity or our spirit feels weak, that we will draw on the strength of the Lord. 
I pray for anyone that is fighting failing health. 
If it is your will please heal them, Jesus.
​Whatever the outcome, I pray they choose joy and laughter through the struggle. 
​I pray that they would not have a spirit of bitterness or complaining, but an attitude of gratitude that would cause others to wonder how they could respond in such a way. 
I pray that they would then be able to share about you and how you have given them the ability to laugh without fear of the future.
