What's the duck and jeep thing all about? After our car was totaled in an automobile accident, my husband and I tossed around the idea of a jeep. We needed something that would be dog friendly, allow for a bike rack, and haul our lives around as we travel from state to state. We airbnb properties, so we divide our time between the Midwest and the middle of Florida (mostly). We settled on a diesel, 2023 Gladiator. Pictured below: The first thing we said to one another was, "We're not going to be weird duck people are we?!" We've all seen it. Jeeps with ducks piled high on the dash. None of us non-jeepers know what it's about. We just think it's strange. After a quick google search we learned that the duck trend apparently began in Canada in 2020. Learn more about that here. We agreed it was a cute story, but we were not persuaded. And then it happened!I was out Christmas shopping and when I returned to my vehicle - there it was... a duck! Setting on my driver's side door handle was an adorable, little, yellow ducky dressed in a combat uniform. And to my surprise, I was smiling. I immediately hopped inside and called my husband. I was even more shocked to hear the excitement in his voice. Who would have thought that two anti (seems like a strong word), but anti-duck people would have been so happy to receive something so seemingly small and silly. Next thing you knowIn the following days/weeks I was scrolling on Facebook when a suggested group popped up: Jeepin' for JesusThat's when everything changed. I no longer saw "silly, little ducks." I now saw opportunity! I saw a mission field! We would use these tiny duckies to share Jesus! My first thought was... I can write Jesus loves you on a duck! My second thought was - I bet this already exists in printed form! Insert Amazon. Sure enough! Here they are! We needed to take it a step furtherSaying "Jesus loves you" is nice, but does that really help the unbeliever come to know Jesus? These ducks needed Bible verses attached, along with contact info. in case they had questions or needed someone to talk to. We are called to go out into the world and make disciples! On this mission , my husband and I are praying about winning souls - not just sharing smiles. So we bought these tags that are clearly larger than the ducks! Haha We wrote a Bible verse, this website and #jeepinforjesus in hopes that the person who receives it will have a few options in seeking the Lord. Maybe they'll open up a Bible or search the verse online. Maybe they'll visit this website and perhaps send an email. Maybe they'll join the Jeepin' for Jesus Facebook group and find friends that will lead them to the Lord. Maybe the duck will end up in a Christ-follower's hand and they'll be inspired to share the message through sharing ducks! The moral of the storyIt's more than ducks. It's an opportunity to share the Gospel. I'll leave you with this - what if we looked for this opportunity in every small or large thing we did in life - day in and day out? What if going to work was more than going to work? What if it was going out into the mission field? What if we sought out ways to point to Jesus in everything we do?
