He Who Does Wrong Will Receive the Consequences of His Wrong Doing

Picture

Today's Bible Verse

"But remember that anyone who does wrong will be punished for that wrong. And the Lord treats everyone the same."
Colossians 3:25

Reflection

To many this verse may seem harsh. No one likes to think of negative consequences.
But to those that have children or loving parents that have corrected them throughout the years, we have observed first hand the importance of rules and structure.
Isn't it the same with our Heavenly Father?
We are his children and he wants the best for us.
He has given us commands and graciously explained the meaning and importance of why those rules are in place.
He's not a father that declares, "Because I said so."

He's a loving father that says, "Let me help you understand."

I was blessed to grow up with a Christ-like father.
He truly exemplified what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
With Father's Day just passing I've reflected a lot on how truly blessed I am to have had my dad live out the love of Jesus every day.
I know that not everyone experiences that here on Earth.
How wonderful it is to know that regardless of the relationship we share with our Earthly father, we have a Heavenly Father that loves us enough to correct us (Proverbs 3:12).
Loves us enough to give us an instruction manual for life.
Loves us enough to never leave us or forsake us.

Now that we are parents or hope to be parents one day, we can recognize the importance of teaching our children that decisions have consequences.
We can help them understand that rules are in place for their protection and that when they go against the wisdom we have imparted they may face the reality of undesirable outcomes.

One of my most favorite quotes:

Picture
The gift of free will is beautiful.
God has given us the freedom to make choices and he has also educated us about what we can expect when we make decisions that go with or against his teaching.
Therefore, not only are we free to choose, but we are blessed with the ability to make an informed decision.

Yes, you may drink alcohol, but Proverbs 20:1 tells us that it is foolish to get drunk.

Yes, you may choose to be unfaithful in your marriage, but
Proverbs 6:32 tells us that an adulterer lacks sense and adultery leads to the destruction of yourself.

In a society of abundance, we all know you may choose to eat of whatever you desire, but 1 Corinthians 9:27 tells us to discipline our bodies and keep it under control.

Sure, you can watch whatever you like or listen to any type of music, but Colossians 3:2 tells us to set our minds on the things that are above, not the things of this Earth.

Of course, you can hang out with whomever you choose, but 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns that bad company ruins good morals.

Challenge:
Consider an area of your life that you most struggle with sin. Large or small. Read God's word and see what he has instructed. Then put that instruction into practice!

Let's Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank you for all the wisdom you have graciously shared with us in your word.
We pray that we would take the time to read the Bible, reflect on your teachings, and share with our family and friends how you have moved in our lives.
We thank you that we are never alone.
That you are always with us, always for us, always pursuing a relationship together.
We thank you and praise your holy name!
It's in Jesus name we pray.
Amen

Until Next Time,
