Can We Do It Again?

Around this time last year I had the privilege of entering my local rehab to share YOUR generosity and
​The Good News!

Here's the recap:

​Good morning friends!
Because of your prayers and financial support I was able to walk into an inpatient addiction rehab and bring a group of women journals and more importantly, Jesus!
They heard about all of you and how complete strangers donated these journals. And how people they may never meet are praying for their success and sobriety.
It was impactful.
Next, I shared about the love of our Heavenly Father. Rehab can be a lonely place. Many times they’ve come from jail or have lost jobs, lost their kids, lost the trust of the family, etc. The list goes on and on. They may be lonely, but they heard that with God - they will never be alone.
There were tears.
Then, we went around the group and named 3 things we are grateful for. Nearly every one of them said “my kids.” About half way through one lady said “God.” After that nearly every person who followed her had God on their list.
I found that interesting. And it got me thinking.
I’m sure there were at least a few ladies that spoke before her that were believers, but maybe they just weren’t thinking of God or maybe they were nervous to speak about God.
I don’t know.
What I do know is it only took ONE. One lady spoke out and said she was grateful for God and somehow that was the reminder that the others needed. Or it was her boldness to speak up that gave them the courage to do the same. Either way- it made a difference!
My take away - I want to be like her. I want to be the one that is unafraid to share Jesus. Look how it changed everyone that spoke after her!
Lord, help me to never hesitate when it comes to sharing the Good News.
We ended the group with prayer requests. Many of the ladies are getting ready to transition out. We prayed for their protection. We prayed that the chains of addiction would be broken! We prayed for their families and their futures.
“Don't forget those who are in prison. Remember them as though you were in prison with them. And don't forget those who are suffering. Remember them.” Hebrews 13:3

So Now I Ask... CAN WE DO IT AGAIN?!

Why is it important to visit women in rehab to spread kindness and the gospel? The answer is two-fold. First of all, it's biblical. As the verse I referenced above  urges us to remember those that are suffering. As individuals, tasks like this can seem too big, but as a community of believers something like this is easily accomplished! If I'm honest, I sometimes wonder if enough money will be raised to purchase these journals, but then I remember that God is our provider and I trust that he will make a way. Secondly, as often is the case - we can turn tragedy into triumph. I lost my mom to her addiction. Helping others that struggled similarly to her gives me a peace and a purpose. Together we can prevent at least one (hopefully more) woman from facing the same destructive fate. We can do this by simply putting a journal filled with God's word in their hand and reminding them that no matter how far they've strayed Jesus is as close as a prayer.
